Recap

As taken from my Notes Section on Facebook:

Just a brief note for myself to summarize this holiday's events. If i can rmb all.

30 October - Victoria School Open House
First Saturday and already Open House for sec 1s' and their parents to come look around our school. Had our usual performance at the pond area and we did AG16 and Incredibles. Wasn't very convincing, but hey it happens.

6 November - First Cantata Practice
Yup rmb'ed i was late and almost didn't attend. Thanks to a certain Ming En, found my way there. It was a different experience and got to see another side of Mr Tan (: and attended many practices after toward the main event.

25-26 November - Music Exchange w/ PLCB and PSSB
Can't deny that this was one of the highlights of the holidays. Made SO many new friends who share the same common interest in music! The fact that the clarinet section was almost a class made it especially funny, and poor Sam had to coordinate all of us (or so I thought) and ended up all 3 schools were like split ._. but yup, the real fun and interaction really happened AFTER the exchange. In between though, Grandma had a really serious stroke and fall, and had her final trip to the hospital.

27 November - 45th Anniversary of VSCB
Nothing short of a disaster on so, many, levels. I shan't add on. Yet despite all the crap, the last thing I was expecting were the few girls from PL that took the effort to come and support us. The time after the concert was really, when I started to converse with them. I know, I'm a social-fail.

6 December - Trip to Windworks
It all started when i told Sam to get a mouthpiece. I had to say it. Ended up spending an afternoon at Windworks. Met Sam, Ling Yi, Wj, Syahmi at PL station and lunched at Post Office Macs. In which I supposed 'wasted food' even though it wasn't even my share. Then we met up with a bunch of sec 2s and spent approximately 3 hours at windworks trying out a lot of different stuff, after which we finally made our choices. I got this cool custom barrel and Sam got her B40 Lyre, and Ling Yi also got her Selmer S-something mouthpiece for her Greg haha. Awesome day.

10-13 December - Wake and Funeral
Grandma passed away on the 10th at around 1am. So I had to cancel all other plans, and go for the wake. Had to miss band prac on the 11th, but i still made effort for the cantata rehearsal on the 12th. Special mention to Jeremy Chee and Qi Xun for visiting, despite the weird timing, you guys were great. Funeral and cremation was really, really emotional and sad. Now both my maternal grandparents have gone, but in a sense, it's great to see them both together again. It's times like these when the ties of families are put to the test, and I think we did pretty well. Now their ashes are together and hope they rest in peace, as they are now with the Lord.

11 December - Not So Silent Night
Despite being in the midst of the wake, I made time for NSSN. Met the guys at PP Banquet and subsequently, the girls from PL too. Tbh, it wasn't their best performance, nor was it their best skit, and their efforts for the booklet/ticket/backdrop could have been MUCH better, it was a great night and really encouraged to join this year's one after O's, but we still have 11 more grueling months to tread through, so let's keep our heads and look forward.

17 December - Section Outing
Had section outing at Marina Barrage and subsequently, Nex. Had a bit of fail planning and like lost our way, but we eventually made our way there anyway. Had a great time bonding with everyone and the picnic was just WINDY. We were all super baked under and sun and then made our way to nex, while missing our stop and making the whole ride more hectic along the way. Walked around, chatted, ate and finally watched MegaMind. Eventful day that could have gone better, but whatever.

23-24 December - Christmas Cantata
Mega churches...are a bit weird for me. I feel really out of place, but still we put up the best performance we could, and really thanks to all who made the effort and killed the time to come and support us. It might have been a tad offensive for some of ya, but really don't think so much about it ^^ and the reception was CRAZY. I've never seen something of such a scale done before, but hey something new, and I never want to experience it again.

27-30 December - Youth Camp
Nothing but pure fun! Great devotion, awesome group and super funny skit. You guys are a blessing in my life and this camp also really opened my eyes to God's greatness and how we should go on with our life, 'leaving our lives to the Potter's hands' as from Isaiah 64:8. Thanks to all of you, for me the best possible closure to the year.

1 Jan - Grandma's 82nd
Grandma is really, really important to me. Not just because she's my only grandparent still with me, but because I have so many memories of her. So many moments I look back to realise that she has sacrificed so much, and that I've yet to pay her back. So I to make sure she has the time of her life, and that I'll treasure every moment I have left with her.

So, superbly NO TIME FOR HOMEWORK. So I'm going to die in terms of academics, as I've not a single subject completely done, so bye bye free time, hello cramming! Thanks to all of you who made my holiday such a blessing, and I'll try my best for the monstrous year ahead.

Routine

Be happy guys, cuz it's a RECORD BREAKING 10th POST from this blog. OMG.

Being at home, and being too sianed to do any homework has resulted in sheer boredom, so what else can I do but this? Spent the last few days practicing a hell lot. I can't think of another week when I brought home my instrument almost everyday. Why?

This! Christmas Cantata 'He Came To Love' at Trinity@Paya Lebar on the 23-24 December 8PM! This is an effort by the church itself and Central of New Life Wind Ensemble directed by our very own Mr Tan Beng Wee. The performance will feature a 175 strong choir, 60 strong ensemble (including me) and drama performances. Come lighten up the mood for Christmas by attending this wonderful event and support me, Ming En and Jian Zhou. It took 2 months of hard practice to make it work, so make an effort to come! Admission is obviously, and very mercifully, FREE.

Putting that on the side, thing's don't look well for homework. After this performance, it's church camp for the last week, basically putting the next week as my only time to study and complete homework. You should realise I'm getting desperate as the task at hand is hopeless and I'll need a miracle to pull through. Next year is going to the toughest year yet, and I'M NOT READY.

I'll try to post more often, so that this blog doesn't always seem so dead and to actually show u guys that my life has actually progressed. If I don't, hope ya'll understand. So with that, ends this monumentally puny 10th post.

psssssst. Benedict me nids you scanner. *wink*

Apologies

Sorry that I haven't updated in a long time. It's been an unmotivated and busy month and there was seriously no mood to post anything at all.

Firstly, results weren't all that bad as I thought. Sure, there were many Bs and Cs, but thank God that I was able to get the sufficient number of A's to give me 8 points for EOYs, and for once I was actually proud to be an AEP student =) Though the batch's results were pretty horrendous. Mr Low had to give us another one of those talks, I could've slept. The number of 40 pointers was terrifying, and those 30 pointers more so. About half the batch got more than 30, and that's something to worry about. Halfway though, I had to collect the band tee and settle the logistics, so I'm glad I missed out on most on that terribly boring talk.

Ahaha, about band, yea busy stuff. Open house was meh, an ok performance but quite a good effort from the band despite only having 2 practices. 45th Anniversary was horrendous and so much drama was involved, thanks to us not being informed that the SYF pieces cannot be played in public before SYF or face the risk of getting disqualified. It was utterly horrible, both the band's playing and the turn of events. Despite the horrible performance, I'd like to thank all the parents that took the time to see their sons, alumnis who played for the alumni segment (stealing the show really) and the PLCB girls whom we had an exchange with only a day before. I swear I'll do everything in my ability to get the band back in shape, of cause starting with my section. I'm going to seriously push the woodwinds to their limit and if I don't get what I want at the end of the day, they will get what they don't want from me.

It's been a really dry holiday, but finally had something to shake things up. Went to WindWorks on Monday with Syahmi, Sam, Lingyi, Weijie. We met up at PL station and went for lunch @ post office Macs. It was totally weird because we just met for a little more than a week and here we are going to an instrument shop spending $$$ on instrument parts and accessories together. Must be the magic of music. Sam and Lingyi totally tried to stuff me with fries but poor thin ol' me couldn't take it and ended up getting 'WASTE FOOD' comments from a certain someone despite it not being my fault in the first place geez. We met up with some other sec 2s at the venue and spent about 3 hours at the place trying out parts, and of cause jamming with one another. Overall, it really became one of the highlights of my holidays. Not only did I get to interact and socialise with new friends, but also improve my playing and theirs. And there's that $300 barrel, but that's not important.

Section outing tomorrow with PLCB clarinets. Their attendance is kind of sad, 6 people, but yea can't help it at this time of the year. We're meeting at Marina Bay MRT tomorrow at 10am so I have to get some good sleep tonight. Activities include playing games, potluck and of cause burning in the hot sun. We may have some activity after all that like watching a movie but we can all decide on that later. Hope this outing can bring both our sections closer to each other and also strengthen ties within both sections, but in tomorrow's outing, we'll be a single section having fun out there, and I'm looking forward to it ^^.

New friends, bad performances, they are all part and parcel of the holiday experience. This holiday wouldn't be so vibrant without all that. With all these going on, we only have new goals to set forth toward and we'll surely improve as we strive to get better. But not everything's done yet, however. There are many things still to come. Normal band practices persist, but other important and rather big events are coming right up, and let me show you the grueling schedule:

Dec 9 Section Outing
Dec 10 Drills/ Band practice
Dec 11 Band practice/ NSSN @ VJC
Dec 12 Rehearsal for Cantata
Dec 14 Rehearsal for GPCC performance
Dec 15 Rehearsal for Cantata (unconfirmed)
Dec 16 Sectionals
Dec 17 Band Practice
Dec 18 Band Practice, Performance @ GPCC
Dec 19 Rehearsal for Cantata
Dec 20 Piano
Dec 23 Christmas Cantata @ Trinity
Dec 24 Christmas Cantata @ Trinity
Dec 27-30 Church Camp

As you can see, I have activities almost everyday so hiatus for blog is inevitable I'm afraid. Those underlined are the really big ones that I have to attend. Accounting for the fact that I have to squeeze in studying and doing homework in between and that my parents are overseas for the next few weeks, it's going to be hard. Grandma may be going within the next few days and it's going to hit me hard. Life is not a game for me, and I have to continue to take it seriously or I'll crumble.

Hope you guys will pray for me and wish me the best for what I'm to do, and I'll also continue to pray for everyone's well-being as well as my own this holiday. There are so many things to do, but I'll find the fun in all that I do, if not why do I even accept doing all this performances for CNL? I have to build up experience and it's just outright fun. This is probably my only holiday post and for the few who read this, if you ever meet me during this time and see me lifeless, just come talk to me and cheer me up, it'll help immensely!

Wish you guys a great holiday!

Awesome

Haha finally got some new games for the PSP =]

It's been a great week since I got my Playstation Portable and I'm really happy about how it's playing out. Valkyria Chronicles II is a really great game though I've been playing it too slowly to say anything conclusive about it, but so far it's turning out to be a great game for the amount I had to spend just to get it ;].

Went Jurong Point after church and got Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and Star Ocean: Second Evolution to add to the previously non-existent collection of PSP games haha. Haven't tried them out yet but they've been games I had been keen to get and I'm really happy I got them now, thanks Dad! But looks like I have to fork out the cash for the next few UMDs I'm looking forward to getting, namely VCIII, God of War, Ys Seven, Crisis Core and Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness.

What's more, I also have to start saving up for a 3DS and the other great games coming out for DS including Prof Layton vs Ace Attorney, a new Prof Layton game, Pokemon Black and many, many more. However, it looks like anything 3DS related is gonna have to be pushed back to after my O levels, a pretty long way away. It feels like Primary 6 again, when I had to wait a whole bloody year just to get my hands on it, but the wait was well worth it, and next year is also a great opportunity to save money, and so I shall.

Band has started again, and things are already hectic. VS Open House 2010 is coming up in less than a week and we might have just had our only practice for it yesterday thanks to the O levels starting on Monday. I have to say the performance is....presentable, but a lot can happen in one week. I just hope everything plays out smoothly. I also have a lot of logistics to do, which means more stress = more hair loss =_=.

Yep Benedict, I agree with the anime thing. Most of the good anime come out on Monday, Amagami on Friday and some on Saturday for me. Manga releases are also pretty unpredictable, with Kimi ni Iru Machi having no release the last week. I haven't touched on dramas and movies, but I assure those tagged comedy will also make you cry, from laughing. Japanese comedy is comedy at it's best, just look at their game shows. ;] Also the winter collection of new anime look pretty promising.

I can only just wait out for things to happen now. Open House, Band's 45th Anniversary, SYF, results tomorrow and the inevitable emo moments in between. This period will surely put teamwork and friendship to the ultimate test, and I am certain we will find a way to make it happen, or we will all crumble under the workload.

Cheers to a good holidays ahead.

IM BACK

Hey guys, I'm back! And at the weirdest time too - 1:10am haha.

I just finished my AEP prep work and I'm speeding through the bio workbook MCQs and I have to say that these questions are the easiest questions in the world. I know that if I didn't even study the textbook I would have these questions in the bag. AEP was a slog and I'm just glad to be rid of it. The 3 hours later to complete the artwork is really ticking me off though. I just can't imagine staying at my seat for 3 hours slowly colouring/painting, it just really bugs me.

Well that said, it's really late. I know I haven't posted nor updated for a really really long time. Hey I even completed the whole Valkyria Chronicles in the period of absence haha. Speaking of which, I will be getting the long-awaited PSP and Valkyria Chronicles 2 later today, so that's something to look forward to ;].

This is cheers for a good night and good luck to those taking bio, especially myself. ^^

Hooked

I've only started it recently, and barely through the first quarter of it, but I'm hooked onto Valkyria Chronicles, a PS3 game which I recently got as well.

It may have only been $39.90, but man is the content worth more than the value. Absolutely stunning visuals consisting of 3D Cell-shaded environments and characters with a vibrant pastel palette and add in cross-hatching for that more serious touch will instantly make anyone fall in love with the art and presentation of this game. The visuals of this game could potentially be the best anime, which is by no means a fault.

The battle system is also something really refreshing and never gets old. It's a SRPG, something like Disgaea, but without grids. The inclusion of a third-person shooter style gives the game a much more 'free' feel and deepens the enjoyment and the strategic value of your moves.

The characters are just ABSOLUTELY LOVELY. A varied cast with a spectrum of different individual personalities coupled with a love interest that I personally love as well ;] makes this game the favourite for me in terms of characters. The voice acting is also spectacular and spot-on, and it actually makes a [literally] gay character who blows up tanks very enjoyable to play as and listen to.

Seriously, this is my top game for the moment and I think I'm going to spend a lot more time than I should on it. Screw homework, I'll be content chionging it at the last minute if it means I have more time to play this game now. However, truthfully speaking, this is the only time I'm ever going to have free time left, so I might as well make an enjoyable use of it and have myself a blast.

If you see me having red-eyes, or just plain flunking my exams, you know what caused it ;].

OH hell

I've been having one hell of a week, and have been neglecting the site too lately, which I totally back up with the concrete excuse of being lazy. :3

News one, I guess is having 9 points for CA2 (3rd place in band. Jeremy - 7, Cheng Yu -8). Hell yea, but I was just 0.7 marks to 8 points thanks to English. Pity really. This places me in a very safe spot from parents' complaints ( they complaint about my English anyway), teachers' lectures and most of all, not worrying about bad results at the end of year as I've already set quite a firm foundation to let my SA2 sit on. Bringing up SA2, I'm determined to pull everything up one grade. Targets being Chinese, Chemistry, A maths and obviously AEP and Combined Humans. I'm aiming for a six for SA2 grades alone, I don't think that with my previous results that it's possible to attain, but I feel that if I work hard for the next 4 weeks or so, it may not stay a dream. Onward to 6!

Band has been giving me shit too. Suspension has started [woohoo]. But admin stuff has not ended yet sadly. I'm meeting the guy who'll be doing up our band tees tmr and I had to prepare a list of sizes and posts so that nothing will go wrong tomorrow. We also have sectionals tomorrow since we couldn't have one on Monday, but it clashes with my meeting with the guy -.- Is it a curse or what, every time I arrange to do admin stuff like choose pieces for our concert repertoire, compiling individuals list, distribute photos, and this time the band tee stuff, it always clashes with sectionals timing. It's pretty lame, but I'll just see it as bad luck? ._.

I've also started watching Japanese dramas. I've only watched 2 so far, and though they may be quite short, they are the funniest dramas I've ever seen, much better than the local shit you see on channel 5 or 8 or whatnot. A lot of it you can relate to too. Other than Nodame Cantabile, which I obviously love, I also recommend a recent favourite of mine - Nobuta wo Produce, or literally Producing Nobuta. The story is about a popular guy who is just putting up a facade in school to stay popular, but meets a weird guy and a bullied and unpopular girl. The guy decides to help the girl become popular and he works together with the weirdo to do so, and through their hilarious but very emotional journey, they find true friendship and develop themselves as people. I'm only halfway through the whole series, but I have to say it welled up a lot of emotion inside of me.

Cheers to another hellish week of homework =]
